The design of the center seeks to satisfy two opposing objectives. It must guarantee maximum visibility of the commercial center and at the same time, reduce negative environmental impact through the successful contextualization of the built forms within the natural mediterranean landscape
For this reason, part of the commercial spaces will be inserted into the hillside. This in turn provides an opportunity to create a roof garden above which the existing natural gradient will be visible. The principal façade will be covered with local limestone, glass, and wood louvers.
The curvilinear glass wall provides the main visual element, and contains the principal entrance, creating a wavelike effect which visually links earth to the adjacent sea. Within the interior courtyard a glass sculpture representing stylized raw crystals is visible from all sides. It extends beyond the roof line and is visible from a distance as well, creating a natural luminous presence throughout the year.
A boutique hotel, located on the upper hill, is composed of various independent pavilions which follow the natural grade of the site so as to preserve the unspoiled natural terrain.
In every part of the design of this center, commercial objectives have been met while emphasizing the significance of the natural elements within its context.
