The Villaggio Suvero-Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is centered on a natural green clearing in the middle of an Apennine pine forest in Liguria, Italy. It is designed as a summer vacation spot for children suffering from a range of life-threatening illnesses. The design program provides not only for program-required play and hospitality structures, but for medical services as well. These structures are built, above all, to the dimension of children and make extensive use of elements akin to the ‘play-area’ such as wood, rough and finished, colorful materials, trails and clearings for play and free time, in addition to a small lake at the center of the camp.
Particular attention has been paid to the environment through the design of low visual-impact and low energy-use buildings as well as environmentally sensitive landscape engineering.
