Location: Asahi-Machi, Japan
Year: 2004
This project solves two basic needs with one design objective: a visual barrier was needed to mask a sequence of factories along a stretch of railway bordering the Asahi-Machi site and the desire to contribute a new value to the built environment. The Sunstar Curtain resolves both issues in the form of a tensile structure that extends 150 meters along the railway line. Solar panels provide the energy to light the curtain at night providing a range of tones from blue to white, the full length of the wall.
The company logo is emphasized by the lighting and is highly visible from high-speed passing trains. This project is animated by advanced branding strategy and environmental sensitivity.
